Second, you get easy set-up. With Panasonic it really is a question of charging up the handset batteries and away you go. There’s no fiddly “registering of handsets to the base”.

And, unlike wireless routers associated with broadband, there is no set-up required. Just plug the wireless base station into the mains and the telephone line into your landline socket and you are ready to make your first phone call.

Cordless also means you can talk on the phone anywhere in range of the wireless base station. That’s anywhere in your home or office and probably down the garden, too. Actual range depends on where the base station is placed and the construction of your home/office.

Is this phone future proof?
All the Panasonic models in this comparison are future proof. They are GAP compatible, DECT certified and examples of IP POTS phones. This gobbledegook is explained here…>>>

What that means is these models can accept new telephone services that your landline provider may make available to you. For example, these phones can receive SMS text messages …>>>

Is this an answerphone?
An answerphone will pick-up a call if you are not available – usually after a set number of rings (that you specify). Your caller will either be greeted by a nice female voice provided by Panasonic. Alternatively, you can record your own message.

Panasonic answer machines record from 18+ minutes of digital voice messages. Some models let you listen to messages remotely through another phone.

Can I adjust the handset or ringtone volume?
All of the models in our survey can be adjusted for listening volume. Some models allow speaker adjustment to the bass range in order to clarify sounds for the hard of hearing.

The top-rated phone models also offer a “night mode” that mutes the ringtone. All models can adjust the volume of the ringtone up or down.

Do I need full colour or mono display?
You’ll pay more for a full colour display, but as the display has more pixels you'll probably find it sharper and easier to read.

All these Panasonic models have backlit display. That means they are easy to read in dim light or in the dark.

Is it easy to change settings to suit my needs?
Increasingly land-line hand-sets can be adjusted in a quick, intuitive manner using an on-screen menu system similar to those found on mobile phones.

Can I use the phone hands-free?
A great feature of cord-free phones is the ability to put the phone on hands-free. You can talk towards the phone and the caller’s voice is broadcast to you through a loudspeaker.

Can you make intercom or conference calls?
An intercom call is made from one of your handsets to another without the need (or cost) to connect to the phone network.

A conference call lets you patch-in an outside call to one or more hand-sets connected to your wireless base.

Can I send/receive SMS text messages?
All the phones reviewed here have the ability to receive SMS text messages through the SMS Text Message Service. A pleasant, female automated voice reads the message to you.

Most models have the ability to create SMS texts. But to send them you will need a subscription through your phone line rental.

Can I add telephone numbers/contacts to the phone?
All the DECT telephones reviewed here can store contact names and numbers. You can then access the number through the menu or even set up a “hot key” for one touch dialling.

Can I re-dial a name/number with 1 key?
1 key or “hot key” dialling is possible with any of these Panasonic models. First you have to enter a contact name & number in the phones “phone book” memory.

You can then assign one of the keypad number keys to the popular telephone number. In future you simply use that one number key to make a call.

Compare Panasonic Cordless Phones Easily Side by Side

You can review and compare Panasonic cordless phones at a glance here.
Which Panasonic cordless digital telephone is best? Which comes with the ability talk hands free or to participate in a conference call? And which can receive SMS text messages from mobile phones?

What you see here are the user nominated, top Panasonic landline phones in 2013.

So, which Panasonic cordless phone is the best?

Guide to Using Our Panasonic Cordless Telephone Comparison Table 2013 UK

Overall Users’ Satisfaction Rating
The key question we asked survey responders was this: “You’ve been using your Panasonic digital telephone for six weeks or more at home or in your business.

Given your experience to date, how would you rate your phone choice overall on a scale of 1 (low) to 10 (high)? Think about the initial set-up, sound clarity when listening, useful functions, durability of construction, ease of use and value for money”.

We then took all these ratings for a given model and found an Overall Users Satisfaction Rating per model.

A best buy Panasonic cordless phone will have a score of 8 or more. A score of 7 suggests a good design marred by poor reliability. A score of less than 7 suggests a product has both design and reliability faults. It’s probably a waste of your money.

Packs available
Phones are supplied with 1 base unit (which may also incorporate the answer machine). You plug the base unit into your landline box. The base unit will then broadcast a phone call, wirelessly, to which ever hand-set picks up the call.

You can buy 1, 2, 3 or 4 packs of handsets. For example, a 3 pack set will give you three interchangeable handsets, 1 base unit/answerphone incorporating a charger stand, plus a charger cradle for the other two hand-sets.

IP POTS
This is a bit of technical jargon. It stands for Internet Protocol, Plain Old Telephone Service. What it means is the telephone model is fit for use with existing and up-coming services available through landline telephone surveys. Some of these are outlined below.

DECT
DECT stands for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications. All the top Panasonic cordless phones are DECT certified.

GAP compatible
Means you may be able to mix and match handsets from different manufacturers.

Ear piece volume control
Voice enhancer
Ringtone Volume Control

You can adjust the phone to boost listening sound volume. Some models also allow you to adjust treble/base sounds if you are hard of hearing. With most Panasonic models you can also adjust the intensity of the ringtone volume.

Speakerphone
a speaker phone facility means hands free talking. You can switch from the earpiece to speaker so you can carry on with the ironing or find that business report.

Intercom
Conference Call
If you have more than one handset linked to the wireless base you can call another handset (without incurring any cost). This is useful for summoning teenagers or finding a colleague.

A conference call facility offers much the same function, but in this case the outside line is patched through to one or more other handsets.

Phone book
Phone book copy

These Panasonic DECT phones have the ability to store names/telephone numbers in memory. You can then call these stored numbers by finding them in the memory list and pressing one key.

Some models allow you to set up one phone book and then propagate it across handsets.

Hot Key Dial
You can assign the number keys to frequently called numbers stored in the phone’s memory. That enables one touch telephone calls.

Redial Name & Number
The phone will log inbound calls and store the number in memory (and the name if it’s stored in your phonebook). You select the telephone number in the log list and press one key to call back.

Caller ID compatible
Caller ID Log
While a phone may be compatible the provision of this service depends on the terms of your landline provider.

Call time
Time Date
Alarm Function
While you are talking all these Panasonic models will log the call duration. These phones also have a time & date facility – that displays when the phone is resting on the charger cradle. Most models can also be set-up to deliver an alarm call – handy if you need a reminder or your alarm clock is broken.

LCD screen
Screen colour
A bigger LCD screen makes it easier to read the display. A back-lit display also aids visual clarity and using the phone in dim light. Panasonic’s now offers both black on a back-lit amber screen or back-lit full colour.

C>

Receive SMS
SMS text entry
SMS Logs

This is one of those IP POTS enhancements. All these telephones can receive SMS text messages (that will be read out to you by and automated voice).

Some models will allow you to key SMS messages and send them out to other land-line and/or mobile phones. However, you will need to subscribe to SMS broadcasting through your landline rental provider.
